MOGADISHU, SOMALIA
Mogadishu – the capital and the main port of Somalia and Benadira - is the largest city of the country. The population is 982000 inhabitants. Mogadishu has been based by the Arabian colonists approximately in the Xth century and by the XIIth century has turned into a large shopping center. In 1905-1941 the city was an administrative centre of colony Italian Somalia, in 1905-1960 - an administrative centre of the territory subject to Somalia which was under control of Italy, and since July, 1960 - the capital of the state Somalia. During a civil war in the beginning of 1990th years Mogadishu was partially eroded, the port suffered hardly.
Through the modern abyssal port the city exports domestic cattle, bananas, skins and skins of animals. Here oil refining, meat-packing, leather-shoe and wood-manufacturing factories and cotton-mill is located. There is an international airport.
In the city a lot of beautiful ancient buildings were saved. Among the main places of interest there are mosque of the XIIIth century and the National museum which occupies a building of a palace of the XIXth century. Also in city the National University is located.
