MALABO, EQUATORIAL GUINEA

    
    Malabo (till 1973 - Santa Isabel), the capital and the largest city of Equatorial Guinea, is located on boreal shore of island Masias-Ngema-Bijogo in the Gulf of Guinea, near equator. The population of capital is about 40000 inhabitants.
    The city has been based in 1827 by Englishmen as a settlement Port - Clarens and prior to the beginning of 40th years of the XIXth century was used as the base for eradication of trade by slaves. In the period from 1843 till 1968 it was an administrative centre of Spanish Guinea, and since 1968 – the capital of an independent state of Equatorial Guinea.
    Malabo is the main administrative and economic center of the country. Here there is a seaport and the international airport. The industry is introduced by sawmill production, wood-manufacturing and alimentary enterprises. The city exports wood produced right here, coffee, cocoa, copra and fish.
