    Luanda is the capital of Angola and an administrative centre of the province Luanda. The population is about 1,5 million inhabitants. The city has been based by Portuguese’s in 1575 and from the XVIIth up to midpoint of the XIXth century served as the main port on dispatch of black slaves to Brazil. In 1975 Luanda has become capital of the independent Angola.
    Luanda is a port on the Atlantic Ocean, the largest city and an industrial centre of the country. The city is divided into two parts: the inferior city on the flat coast of the bay and the upper picturesquely stretched on high coastal terrace. Commercial and industrial quarters are concentrated around the modern port in the inferior city. In the upper city there are residential quarters and government offices. Here there are a lot of ancient monuments: the fort of Saint - Мiguel of the XVIth century, the palace - a former residence of the general - governor, the palace of archbishop and the cathedral church. Also in the capital the University of Luanda, the Institute of education and sociology of Angola, the Museum of Angola and Museum Dundu are located.
    In the city alimentary, textile, oil refining industries, motor industry are advanced. Luanda exports petroleum, coffee, diamonds, iron ore and fish products. The international airport in Luanda is the most brisk airport of Angola, and the railway binds city to shafts of N'Dalatando and coffee plantations around Malange.
