KAMPALA, UGANDA
Kampala is the capital of Uganda and an administrative centre of the Central province. The city has been based on lakeshore Victoria in the XIXth century. The population is about 773000 inhabitants. In 10 kilometers from city Port - Bell - a port on the lakeshore, connected with Kampala by car and the railway is located.
In the capital alimentary, textile, metal-cutting industries are advanced. Here there are enterprises on effecting flour, sugar, coffee, skins. There is an international airport.
In architecture of the city the elements of different cultures are traced: the European buildings in a modernist style, towers of Indian temples, minarets of mosques, domes of Christian cathedrals. The most beautiful buildings - including parliament - are in downtown, on hill Nakasero. On an ancient hill Kampala in 1890 a fort has been constructed by Englishmen, and on hill Кasaubi tombs of kings of Uganda are located.
In the city there is University Makerere and technical college of Uganda. The interest is represented by the Museum of Uganda (including a unique collection of musical instruments), the Center of Archeological Research and National theatre, cathedral Rubaga. The museum of Uganda in former times ministered a residence of government of country.
