Harare (the former name - Salisbury) is the capital of Zimbabwe and an administrative centre of a province East Маshonalend. The population of the city is 1 million inhabitants. In 1890 the first column of British Austral African Company based a military base, the Fort of Salisbury, named so in honor of lord of Salisbury - the prime minister of the Great Britain. The city educed as a shopping center on a path to Beira - a seaport in Mozambique. In 1899 the railway of Salisbury - Beira has been finished, and in 1923 Salisbury has been appointed as capital of the British colony of Southern Rhodesia. The city has been renamed into Harare in 1980.
Today Harare is the main trade, industrial and educational center of the country. It also serves as the center of agriculture and gold mining of region. Here metal-cutting, light, alimentary, chemical, textile industries are advanced. The enterprises of capital effect tobacco items, clothes, building materials, items from an arbor and plastic. There is an international airport.
In Harare there are University of Zimbabwe, Agricultural College Gvebi, Musical college of Zimbabwe, National archive and Library of parliament.
The National gallery of Zimbabwe in which the collection of jobs of the European artists and representatives of traditional and modern African art are gathered, the Museum of Queen Victoria with zoological and historical exhibits is very interesting as well.
