    Dar Es Salaam is the capital, the basic economic, political and cultural center of Tanzania and the main seaport of the country on the Indian Ocean. The population of the capital compounds about 1,75 million inhabitants.
    Dar Es Salaam is known as Arabian «paradise of the world ", has been based in 1862 to become a summer residence of the anthurus of Zanzibar. Since 1891 the city was an administrative centre of the German East Africa and in 1916 has passed to the possession of the Great Britain. The city began since 1940th years to grow and acquire a modern kind. In 1961 Dar Es Salaam has become the capital of an independent state Tanganyika which has existed only till 1964. After the coalescence of Tanganyika and Zanzibar in one state - Tanzania - Dar es Salaam has continued to execute the function of the capital.
    Railways connect the city with Аrusha in the North, with lakes Tanganyika and Victoria and Zambia in the West. Dar Es Salaam exports coffee, sisal, cotton and copper which arrives from Zambia which is not having an access to the sea. In the city the alimentary, textile, shoe, oil refining enterprises work. Through Dar Es Salaam passes transit oil pipeline to Zambia. There is an international airport.
    From educational institutions in the capital of Tanzania the University of Dar Es Salaam, college Kivukoni and college of business work. Here the National archive, the Central National Library and the National Museum of Tanzania, the Historical-ethnographic museum and the Botanic garden are situated. Today in the capital modern buildings, many comfortable hotels prevail.
