ASMERA, ERITREA
Asmara is the capital of Eritrea. This city with the population about 400000 inhabitants is on a plateau about the Red Sea in the northern part of the country at height of 2300 m above sea level and is one of the most comfortable and beautiful cities of Northeast Africa. Asmara is the large trading - transport center and it is linked to seaport Massava.
Massava there was the capital of then Italian colony Eritrea till 1900, when it replaced Asmara. In 1952 country has become a part of Ethiopia, but since 1993 Asmara has again become the capital – of already independent Eritrea.
Near the city there is an international airport. The ceramic and textile production, leather-shoe, wood-manufacturing and alimentary industries are developed. Here they produce cosmetics, buttons. The new push in the development of economy of the city has been connected to the beginning of effecting of a glass, a brick and cement. The waterpower plant located nearby provides Asmara with electricity, and in nearby shafts gets gold and copper ore.
In the city there is a university.
