Abuja has officially replaced Lagos at the place of capital of the state Nigeria in 1991. The decision about the transmission of capital from Lagos to Abuja was accepted in 1976. After fifteen years of planning and reconstruction this decision has been realized. The city is located in a picturesque steppe valley in the central part of Nigeria. This area is rather poorly developed and ethnically neutral. Choosing a place for new capital an authority aspired to frame the city in which any ethnic, social or religious bunch would not dominate.
