The territory of Africa
The area of Africa is 30,3 million square kms. It is the second largest continent of the world after Eurasia. The equator divides it into two equal parts. In the North the shores of the continent are washed by waters of Mediterranean Sea, in the west - the Atlantic Ocean, in the east - the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean.
Africa is the hottest continent of the world. Its central part is coated with equatorial forests. In accordance with removal from equator to the north and the south wet wood regions zones are replaced by savanna - extensive steppes with high grass in some meters. The savannah by degrees passes in sandy, stony desert, denuded waters.
The vegetative and animal world of Tropical and Austral Africa is extremely rich and diverse, many kinds are endemic. To their conservation the national parks and reservations built in many countries serve.
